Claude prompt codes that don’t actually work.

> Every “secret Claude code” list tells you what to use. This page tells you what to stop using. 20 codes that tested as placebo, confidence theater, or pure pattern-matching.

Why this page exists

Roughly 70% of the “Claude power codes” shared on Reddit and X are placebo — they change how the response sounds without changing what Claude actually thinks. This is an honest catalog of the most popular ones, tested against baseline runs. If you’re using any of these: consider swapping them for the listed alternatives.

ULTRATHINKConfidence theater

Makes Claude sound like it thought harder. Reasoning quality does not actually improve.

The claim online

Forces Claude into a deeper reasoning mode. Claude produces a longer, more thorough chain of thought and gives better answers.

What actually happens

In controlled tests, ULTRATHINK produces longer responses with more hedging vocabulary ("let me think step by step…", "considering all angles…") but the final answer matches the baseline run for the same prompt. The longer output creates the feeling of deeper reasoning; the logical steps don't actually change.

Real-world failure mode

People add ULTRATHINK to important decisions and feel reassured by the verbose output. The hedging language hides the fact that the recommendation is the same one Claude would give without any prefix.

GODMODEPure placebo

Pure placebo. Claude's behavior is identical with or without it.

The claim online

Unlocks Claude's hidden capabilities. Bypasses default safety and hedging. Gets you the "real" answer.

What actually happens

Claude has no "god mode" toggle. The prefix is treated as part of the user message and ignored. Side-by-side output is indistinguishable from a prompt with no prefix at all — same reasoning, same conclusions, same hedging.

ALPHAConfidence theater

Single-word swagger prefix. No effect on reasoning.

The claim online

Puts Claude into a high-confidence mode. Produces more decisive, expert-sounding output.

What actually happens

Output gets slightly more confident-sounding vocabulary but the underlying reasoning, reasoning depth, and final recommendation match baseline. This is a classic confidence-theater code — it changes tone without changing thinking.

Real-world failure mode

Confident-sounding wrong answers. Users report satisfaction with ALPHA outputs that turn out to be incorrect because the confident tone bypassed their skepticism.

L99
UNCENSOREDPure placebo

Claude doesn't have a simple on/off safety toggle. The prefix does nothing.

The claim online

Removes Claude's guardrails and gives you unfiltered answers.

What actually happens

Claude's safety behavior is shaped by training and system-level rules, not user prompts. The prefix is treated as text and ignored. Output matches baseline.

JAILBREAKBrittle

Detectably tries to bypass guardrails. More likely to trigger refusals than loosen them.

The claim online

Bypasses Claude's restrictions. Gets answers to questions Claude would otherwise refuse.

What actually happens

Modern Claude is trained against jailbreak patterns. The prefix often triggers more conservative responses (the opposite of the intended effect) or refusals with explicit reasoning about the attempted manipulation.
